Born on March 18, 1929, Marian (Suzzie) Perkins Grey, daughter of Helen (Perky) and William Perkins of New Haven, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2022, with her family at her side.
Suzzie was one of the greats who lived her life in New Haven, Woodbridge, and Avon, Connecticut, and Ludlow, Vermont. Suzzie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 45 years Dr. Ross Maxwell Grey. Adored by her children, Jennifer Grey McCarty (Christopher), Dr. Michael Grey (Barbara), Elizabeth Grey Godbout (Arthur) and Julie Grey MacKay ( Duncan), and her nine grandchildren who were blessed to enjoy and treasure their grandmother for so many years: Nicholas and David; Hannah, Elle, Rex and Maxwell; and Samuel, Tess and Lucas. Suzzie is predeceased by her cherished sisters Nancy (Bo) Ridinger and Willa Hamilton, and is survived by her sister Helen (Sally) DeGennaro and a bounty of nieces and nephews. Recognized by Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, Suzzie taught at Center School in Woodbridge and St. Louis School in West Haven. She was beloved by countless students, many of whom still connected with her through the years. Suzzie loved her gardens and was a longstanding member of the Woodbridge Garden Club. In recent years she was an active member of the Farmington Woods Women’s Club and, ever the fashionista, was fittingly a contributor to the annual fashion show. She possessed an abiding love of our country and was a voracious reader of history. She lived a life full of laughter and joy and was blessed with many friends, travel, memorable parties in Woodbridge and at Okemo Mountain. Truly one of a kind, Suzzie will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, October 8th at 11:00 a.m., at Saint Catherine of Siena, 265 Stratton Brook Road, West Simsbury, Connecticut 06092. In lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to two charities Suzzie supported for many years: St. Jude Children's Hospital (stjude.org) or to Tunnels to Tower Foundation(T2T.org). If you wish to send flowers, please have them sent to Saint Catherine of Siena.
