Edith Carlson Zabel, 85, of Guilford, Connecticut, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on December 26, 2020. Born in Hartford, CT on September 5, 1935 daughter of the late Gunhild and David Carlson, she grew up in Newington, CT. At Newington High School, she met the love of her life, Norman R. Zabel. Edie graduated from Hartford Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. In 1957, Edie and Norm married and moved to Guilford where they lived for 63 years. For decades, Edie was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Guilford. She and Norm enjoyed camping and traveled extensively throughout the United States and beyond. During their retirement years, they enjoyed their winters at Lake San Marino in Naples, FL. Edie leaves her beloved husband Norman, daughter Wendy and her husband David North, son Bill and his wife Wendy Zabel, and daughter Julie and her husband Michael Gargano, seven grandchildren; Lindsey, Christopher, Taylor, Sara, Chelsea, Michael and Justin and four great grandchildren; Arthur, Iris, Katherine and Eleanor. She was predeceased by her daughter Laura Zabel Ford.
A celebration of Edith’s life will be held at a later date. Gifts in her memory can be made to the First Congregational Church, directed to the Women’s Outreach Fellowship, 122 Broad Street, Guilford, CT 06437. Arrangements are with the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, Guilford.
