Anita Shaffer

December 2, 1932 ~ November 17, 2022 (age 89) 89 Years Old


Anita Malone Shaffer was born Dec. 2, 1932 in Connellsville PA, daughter of the late Paul 0. and Sylvia (Phillippi) Malone. She died November 17, 2022. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard H. Malone of Wiscasset ME. She was raised in Connellsville and Uniontown PA; graduated from Dunbar Twp. High School in 1950, and Indiana State Teacher's College, PA, in 1954: attained a Master of Education Degree from Penn State in 1961 and attended Iowa State University on a sabbatical leave in 1978-79. She taught home economics at Brockway, PA High School from 1954-1957; Alexander Hamilton Jr. High School, in Long Beach, CA 1957-1958; and Baldwin-Whitehall High School, Pittsburgh, PA from 1958-1962. In 1962 she moved to Connecticut to become an Extension Home Economist for the Cooperative Extension Service of the University of Connecticut, working in New Haven County. She co-authored Extension publications in clothing and textiles and produced educational television programs and other programs on clothing and textiles. She retired in 1988 after 25 years with the Extension Service and moved to Branford, CT. She served as Clerk of Session of the First Presbyterian Church in New Haven from 1971- 1974, and as a lifetime elder and was a hostess for many foreign students through the International Center of New Haven. She married Richard Lee Shaffer on Sept. 9, 2000.  He died in July, 2011. She moved to the Masonic Home at Ashlar Village in Wallingford in 2006. Survived by nieces and nephew:  Diane K. Perry of North Berwick, ME, Keith Malone of Westbrook, ME, Denise Malone and Nancy Appleton of Wiscasset ME, 7 great-nieces and nephews

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 6pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 704 Whitney Ave. New Haven. Interment will be in Greenridge Memorial Cemetery in Connellsville, PA. Arrangements are with the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, 424 Elm St. New Haven.
