Virginia Knapp ("Ginny") of Cheshire, CT, formerly of Orange, CT and Jupiter, FL., passed early Saturday morning on December 2nd. She currently resided at Elim Park Retirement Community in Cheshire, CT. Born July 18, 1930, in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late John Herbert Tingley and Emily Carpenter Tingley. Ginny was the devoted wife of Robert Henry Knapp for over 65 years. She was the mother of Cynthia Ciukenda (husband Stephen) of Orange, CT, and Stephen Knapp (wife Julie) of Milton, GA. She was also the grandmother of Peter, William, and Michelle Knapp of Milton, Georgia.
Mrs. Knapp graduated from Classical High School in Springfield, MA and Chamberlain School of Retailing in Boston, MA. She was Assistant Buyer for Steigers retail store and then was employed as a service representative and supervisor for SNET for 25 years. She retired in 1989 and later moved with her husband to Jupiter, FL.
Ginny was interested in crafts of all kinds and continuously knitted prayer shawls for the infirmed as well as Christmas ornaments for the family. She and her husband enjoyed traditional jazz and attended many jazz festivals throughout the country. They also enjoyed cruising the Caribbean and touring many parts of the world. Her husband's many activities in Rotary International led to her attendance of many events throughout the world from London to Tokyo.
She was loved by family and friends and will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be celebrated in Nelson Hall at Elim Park in Cheshire on Saturday, January 6th at 11am. Arrangements are with the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, New Haven.
