Obituary

Thomas P. Pugh of Guilford CT, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Harvard MA, on January 1, 2023. He was 95.

Tom was the son of Cornelius Pugh and Dorothy Stanley of Montclair NJ. He was born in NYC and raised in Upper Montclair with his younger brother. He graduated from Montclair High School and joined the Navy as a medical corpsman. Once discharged, he attended Williams College majoring in Biology. Upon graduation he married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth (Babe) Campbell. They raised three daughters in Upper Montclair and summered in Branford CT at the family's cottage. While in NJ he worked at the Ballantine Brewery Company in Newark, the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea company in NYC and was active in the Montclair Volunteer Fire Department and Union Congregational Church as well as serving on many town boards.

He moved to Guilford CT to work as Director of Quality Control for Pepperidge Farm Mail Order in Clinton. He was very active in First Congregational Church, Guilford, and volunteered at the Guilford Library. He hiked with the Keyarts Klamberers into his nineties. Tom loved the outdoors, was an avid gardener, fisherman, hiker, horseshoe crab tagger, and backyard bird enthusiast. He had a great sense of humor, a wry wit and believed all people should be treated with dignity and respect. He was a gentle man and a Gentleman.

Tom was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth, his oldest daughter, Jennifer of New Haven CT, and his younger brother, Cornelius of Dayton Ohio. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth of Bloomfield NJ and Kerry C.P. Alexander (Glenn) of Harvard, MA, and Branford CT; two step granddaughters and two great granddaughters as well as a brother-in-law Jon Montan of VA; sister-in-law, Judy Campbell of Summit NJ ,and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Tom's life will be held June 10, 11:00 am at First Congregational Church, Guilford. A reception at the Fellowship building will follow.
