Susan Rosner

Susan Zoe (Daniels) Rosner, of Woodbridge and Hamden, CT, passed away peacefully in her home on December 20, 2025, at the age of 90 years.

Born in The Bronx, NYC, in August of 1935, Susan was the daughter of William and Gertrude (Goodman) Daniels. She grew up in Far Rockaway, where she would frequently be seen bicycling with her younger sister Valerie and dog Laddie in tow, and graduated from Far Rockaway High School in 1953. Susan then moved to Manhattan, where she attended the City College of New York (CCNY), earning her Bachelor of Science in the College of Liberal Arts and Science in June of 1958.

While at CCNY, Susan met the love of her life, Daniel Rosner, also a student at CCNY, following a fortuitous introduction by mutual friends. She had been planning to pursue an advanced degree in Psychology on the west coast at Berkeley, but opted to instead continue her higher education at Columbia University, while Dan pursued his PhD in Aeronautical Engineering nearby at Princeton University. After a courtship that featured many weekend train trips between NYC and Princeton, Sue and Dan were married in August of 1958, and soon after started a family with the arrival of a daughter and then a son.

Sue and Dan traveled extensively, both domestically and internationally, as Dan’s career took the family to Palo Alto, CA, where Dan was a visiting scholar before settling in the New Haven, CT area, where – in 1969 – Dan accepted a faculty position at Yale University. Sabbatical and conference travel brought them to London, England, Santa Barbara, CA, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, Spain, Germany, Turkey, Italy and the Czech Republic, sometimes with the family, and in several cases more than once.

Once the children were beyond elementary school, Sue applied herself for several years as an Epidemiology Research Assistant at the Yale School of Medicine, in a group conducting longitudinal studies of cancer patients and survivors to better understand the underlying risk factors.

Throughout their lives, Sue and Dan appreciated music and fine art, and like Dan, Sue was an accomplished artist. She worked with stained glass and ceramics, and became a studio potter at the Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven. Sue had a particularly keen eye for pairing colors and matching patterns, and actively participated in a jewelry group in Bethany, where these skills allowed her to create and sell many beautiful custom beaded pendant necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. In recent years, Dan and Sue both rekindled their interest in painting, with Sue focusing primarily on acrylic and oil paints, while Dan pursued watercolors.

Sue and Dan nurtured and maintained lifelong friendships, with several going back well before their high school days. A core group of four or more couples would reconvene each summer at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival in the Litchfield Hills to picnic, enjoy the music, the rustic setting, and each other’s company.

Susan will be missed and remembered always by her family and longtime friends. She is survived by her daughter Lisa, son Stefan, daughter-in-law Julaine, grandchildren Zachary and Paloma, and loyal dog Panda. She was predeceased by her dear husband of 66 years, Daniel (who passed away only ten months prior), her parents William and Gertrude, and her sister Valerie, as well as beloved dogs Laddie, Sunny and Babar.

A private memorial remembrance of Susan will take place this spring. She will be laid to rest at that time, forever more with Daniel, at the Grove Street Cemetery in New Haven. Arrangements are with the Hawley Lincoln Memorial.
