Obituary

Walgren, Sandra Clark, passed away on May 6, 2016 at her home in Guilford, a month after celebrating her 90th birthday with friends and family. She was born in New Haven, CT to the late Theodore Robert Clark and Evelyn Schepmoes Clark and grew up on the family farm in Woodbridge, CT. She graduated from Hillhouse High School where she was vice-president of her class. As co-editor in chief of the newspaper, she interviewed First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. She attended Wellesley College.

In 1952 she married Paul R. Walgren. During their 50 year marriage, Sandy and Paul lived in Mount Carmel, Bethany, Woodbridge and Guilford in homes that reflected her love of antiques and gardening. In the 1990's, she became very involved with the Regional Visiting Nurse Association of Hamden and North Haven, eventually becoming Chair of the Board of Directors.

Paul predeceased her in 2002. She leaves her three daughters and their husbands: Andrea Walgren and Christopher Galligan of South Hamilton, Massachusetts; Meredith Walgren, MD, Ph.D, and Wayne English, MD of Nashville, Tennessee; and Karin Walgren Meoli and Paul Meoli of Guilford, Connecticut with whom she shared a residence. "Yum" as she was known to her family and friends, will be deeply missed, especially by her grandchildren Jonathan and Andrew Meoli, Christina and Alexandra English, step-grandson Jesse Meoli of Los Angeles, CA, and her many nieces and nephews. Her sister, Lindsley C. Nordmark, predeceased her. She is survived by her sisters, Arden C. Gordon of North Branford, Connecticut and Virginia C. Link of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.

Her family is extremely grateful to everyone who enabled her to live out her days at home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution in her name to VNA Community Healthcare, 753 Boston Post Road, Guilford, CT 06437 (ConnecticutHomecare.org). A celebration of Sandra's life will be held at The First Church of Christ, Woodbridge, at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 10th. Arrangements are with the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, 1315 Boston Post Road, Guilford, CT 06437 (hawleylincolnmemorial.com).
