Robert Carroll Flanagan 94 years of age passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2,2024 at his home.
Robert was born in March 10, 1930 to John H. Flanagan and Mary H. Flanagan He was the youngest of five children predeceased by brothers Jack, Charles, James, and sister Joan.
Robert was the uncle of James, Charles, Kevin & Sharon Flanagan and Mary Joan, Susie, Catherine, Donald, and Rennie Messier.
Robert was educated in the New Haven School system attending Hillhouse High school. He was a member of the track and baseball team. He attended the University of Connecticut and played football and baseball. He was also president of his Senior class.
Robert attended New York University Law School in 1960. He became a partner in the law firm of Flanagan, Dorsey, and Flangan. He was later appointed as a Superior Court Judge by Governor William O'Neill. Robert served with his brother Judge John C. Flanagan during a portion of his appointment. Robert and John were the only two brothers to serve as Connecticut Superior Court Judges, at the same time.
Robert was a war veteran serving in the Korean War. While in the military, during the post war, he was player/ manager for the US Army baseball team that toured Japan, China and North and South Korea for approximately 1 year. His team won the Commanders League Championship during his time with the team.
Robert was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He won the Housatonic Archives Award as Hunter of the Year for 5 years for his excellent marksmanship in Bow and Arrow and Rifle.
Robert was also an avid big game fisherman and won countless awards from the many Mako Shark and Tuna rodeo's, he and his crew participated in, off Montauk Point, NY.
Robert was blessed by a long life, a friend to all and a lover of life. Rest in peace.
Graveside services will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamden Saturday morning at 10:00. Arrangements are with the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, New Haven.
