IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard K
Nicoll
September 12, 1926 – February 4, 2018
With his family by his side, Richard K. Nicoll passed away peacefully at age 91 on Feb. 4, 2018. Born in Cambridge, MA, he was a resident of Guilford and Madison for most of his life. He leaves his loving wife of 70 years, Norma Nicoll. He was the father of Judy (Vaughn) Knowles of Guilford, Gary Nicoll of Clinton, and Dale (Jana Pegnataro) Nicoll of Westbrook. He was the brother of Thomas (Rose) Wenger of San Francisco, CA, and was predeceased by his sister PhyllisRathbun of Santa Rosa, CA. He also leaves grandchildren Gregory Knowles, Miranda Knowles Chung, Vanessa Knowles Charette, Scott Nicoll, Lisa Nicoll, and 3 great-grandchildren. Richard served his country in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in the Philippines during WWII. Before his retirement, he was employed by Kurt H. Volk Co. in Milford as a lithographic cameraman for 40 years. He was proud to be a member of the Guilford Boat Owners Association, a group that was instrumental in developing the Guilford Town Marina. He had a lifelong love of fishing, boats, and especially sailing. He was also an excellent handyman and could fix just about anything. He loved to sing, to laugh, and could tell a good joke. Richard had an artist's eye, with a natural aptitude for color and composition, a musician's soul, playing
many instruments by ear, and a sailor's heart. May "fair winds and following seas" be with him.
His family wishes to thank his caregivers at Apple Rehab in Guilford.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV.org) in memory of Richard. Visiting hours will be from 4PM to 7PM on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at Hawley Lincoln Memorial, 1315 Boston Post Road, Guilford. Burial will be private.
