Obituary

Mildred (Lynn) Douglas (a.k.a. Millie, Mil, Noni, Betty & "Douglas" at the VA) passed away on April 30th at age 93. Millie was born on August 7th, 1928 to Mildred (Delaney) and Frederick Lynn of West Haven. She adored her siblings Frederick, Robert, Joan, and Dennis. From age 12, Millie knew that nursing was her calling. She graduated from Saint Francis in Hartford in 1949 before working at Grace-New Haven Hospital and private duty assignments. As the Clock Company nurse in New Haven, she met her future husband, Henry, who invented numerous ailments to visit her. Married on May 2nd, 1959, they built a home and family on woodland in East Haven that is now part of Farm River State Park. Early years saw overnight family trips sailing the Thimble Islands and community involvement as Brownie troop leader. Employment at West Haven VA at the National Center for PTSD marked Millie's next life phase, from which she retired in 1994 to care for her beloved Henry. "Douglas" was a dedicated caregiver of our nation's veterans and inspired family to enter nursing and psychiatry. In later years, Millie and Henry lived at Brockett's Point beach in Branford, growing strawberries and digging $50 holes for shrubs despite granite bulkheads. She applied her love for knitting to show care for soldiers and cancer patients with hats and blankets. Time with family was cherished and she loved talking over hot tea during visits. Noni is survived by daughters Heather Douglas-Palumberi (Robert), and Jennifer Anderson (Richard), both of Madison, grandchildren Roxanne, Michael, Chelsea, Daniel, Maxine, and Jordanne, and great-grandchildren Bodhi and Emma Millie (Millie's namesake).

A funeral mass will be held on May 6 at 10 AM at St. George Church, Guilford, followed by a graveside service at Westside Cemetery, Guilford, where Millie will enter eternal rest next to the love of her life, Henry Foster Douglas. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Grateful thanks for donations to CT Nurses' Scholarship Fund or Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital. Arrangements are with the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, Guilford.
