Obituary

Laurel Provance Lyons, aged 88, died peacefully on January 31, 2016 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford, CT, from complications after a stroke. Laurie was born June 8, 1927, in Hopwood, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Guy and Irene (White) Provance. She graduated from North Union High School in Uniontown, PA. where she was the Editor-In-Chief of the yearbook; she also attended classes at the University of West Virginia.



Laurie greatly enjoyed her work. She held positions as a secretary at United States Steel Corporation in Monroeville, PA., and as an executive assistant at both Winchester and Olin Corporations in New Haven, CT. She was a dedicated gardener, growing large vegetable, herb and flower gardens. She was a regular golfer, a member of the Homewood Acres in Woodbridge, CT. and for many years she would travel to Bermuda and Florida in the winter to continue her golfing. Additionally, Laurie was an avid reader with dozens of books on her "to read" list.



Laurie married William Leon Lyons on September 4, 1949. After sixteen years in southwest Pennsylvania, they moved to Connecticut and settled in Orange. She was a member of the Orange Congregational Church.



Laurie was preceded in death by her husband on June 22, 1993, and two brothers, Glen Provance of San Jaun Capastrono, CA and Jason Provance of Santa Barbara, CA. She is survived by a brother, Gerald (Loretta) Provance of Vanderbilt, PA.; sons, Robert Lee (Nancy) Lyons of Carlisle, MA. and William Kimbel (Susan Krout) Lyons of Oak Park, IL; four grandchildren, Megan (Bruce) Jordan, Garrison Lyons, Abigail Lyons and Madeline Lyons; along with many nephews and nieces. In addition, she leaves behind her best friend and companion for more than fifteen years, Hank Trufan of West Haven, CT.



There will be a visitation Friday, February 5th between 5:00-8:00pm at Hawley Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 493 Whitney Ave, New Haven, CT. A funeral service on Saturday February 6th at 9:30am will be at the Orange Congregational Church in Orange, CT. The interment will follow at the Milford Side Cemetery in Woodbridge, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to the either the National Stroke Association or the Orange Congregational Church.
