June 7, 1931 – March 21, 2016
Laura S. Sunblade of Madison, beloved wife for sixty-four years of William E. Sunblade, passed away on March 21, 2016 at Connecticut Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Born in Guilford, CT on June 7, 1931, Laura was the devoted daughter of the late Rudolph and Olive Schraner.
Laura graduated from Daniel Hand High School in Madison and from Bay Path Junior College in Long Meadow, MA. She lived most of her life in Madison, except for some wonderful years spent in Jacksonville, N.C.
After graduation Laura went to work for Dr. Davis in Harford. She left the workforce to start her family, eventually returning to work for the Madison Public School System.
Laura was a lifelong member of the North Madison Congregational Church and a charter member of the North Madison Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary (the department co-founded by her father). She was also a proud member of the Jordan Freeman Chapter of the D.A.R.
Besides her husband Bill, Laura is survived by her daughter Judy Sunblade of Cambridge, MA; her son Jeff Sunblade and daughter-in-law Pat of Simsbury; her sister Henrietta Schraner of Madison; and many long time friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 2 at 1:00 PM at the North Madison Congregational Church. Burial will follow at the West Side Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Madison Volunteer Fire Department.
