Obituary

John S. Kanyock, 80, of Madison, died unexpectedly at Yale-New Haven Hospital on December 15, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Jan Kanyock. The son of Sue (Lukash) and John Kanyock, John was born on April 3, 1934, in New York City, where he lived an adventurous youth. John joined the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. Upon return from Korea, John had a challenging and meaningful career as an air traffic controller in New York. He retired to Connecticut and was a resident of Madison. John's passing leaves an empty seat at several coffee groups in town.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Stephen Kanyock and his wife Beth of Mystic, Lynn Kanyock of Ledyard, Thomas Kanyock and his wife Susan Gredell of Chicago, IL, and stepchildren Vonda Raisides and her husband Jim of Marblehead, MA, and Jason Reimers and his wife Susie Hackler of Goffstown, NH, and grandchildren Jennifer (Kanyock) Lemieux and her husband Steven of Newport, RI, Adam Kanyock of Chicago, and Samantha, Paige, and Jack Raisides of Marblehead. John is also survived by his sister Lorraine (Kanyock) Werner and her husband Jerry of Middleburgh, NY.


His family will receive relatives and friends at Hawley Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 1315 Boston Post Road, Guilford, on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 8:30 AM at St. Margaret Church, 24 Academy Street, Madison. Reception following the mass will be family only. Interment with military honors will be held at a later date.
