Obituary


Elizabeth Barnes Thompson Lozier, formerly of North Haven, CT peacefully passed away on August 3, 2015 at Evergreen Woods. She was the widow of Henry M. Lozier and dear special friend of the late Abbott Davis. Born on September 14, 1924, daughter of Dr. Clarence and Marion Thompson of Norwich, CT. She is survived by her daughter Betsy Gerstacker and her two children, Russ & Sarah. Daughter Ann Echols and her two children Rebecca Liguori and her husband Steve and their recent child Denison, and Avery Fitzgerald and her husband Sean. Her son Peter and his wife Cathy and their children Jessie, Matt, Thom & Chrissy. Niece Libby (John) Chapin, and nephew Jeff (Leila) Lozier and their children and special family friend Richard Pettitt as well as many dear friends at Evergreen Woods. Tommie attended NFA and graduated from Mount Holyoke College. She went on to earn a master's degree in psychology and Certificate of Advanced Study in school counseling and was a guidance counselor for many years at the North Haven High School She was a past President of the Junior League of New Haven, long time member of the New Haven Lawn Club, WBC and lifelong volunteer with many civic organizations. Her family was most important to her; delighting in their successes and supporting their disappointments. She was an uncommon woman—intelligent, curious, kind, gentle, thoughtful and a great listener whose interest in politics, history and social issues created many lively conversations. Tommie also enjoyed traveling, playing tennis and paddle tennis, gardening, skiing, the theater and reading. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ronald Miller along with all the wonderful caregivers and other thoughtful staff members at Evergreen Woods for their compassionate and gentle care. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Evergreen Woods Scholarship Committee at 88 Notch Hill Road, North Branford, CT 06471 or Mount Holyoke College 50 College St, South Hadley, MA 01075. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, August 7 at Stony Creek Church of Christ Congregational, 192 Thimble Isl. Road, Branford, CT 06405. Burial will be private in Westfield MA.
