JONGBLOED, DONALD JAY, (83) of Madison, Connecticut passed away suddenly on November 2, 2015. He was born May 25, 1932, in Passaic, NJ to the late John and Mae (Peters) Jongbloed. His beloved wife of 61 years, Carol Stuart Jongbloed, passed away in August. Don graduated from Eastern Academy, Paterson, NJ, in 1949. He earned a BS in civil engineering from MIT in 1953 and received the distinguished military student award at MIT where he was an Air Force ROTC member. Don was a member of honorary engineering and civil engineering societies and the American Society of Civil Engineers. He earned a graduate degree in engineering administration from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology in 1956. Donald is survived by his three children Barbara (Ralph) Tiner, Leverett, MA, Peter S. (Barbara) Jongbloed, Madison, CT, and Pamela Jongbloed, Springfield, MA. He was also the very proud and loving grandfather of Andrew, Avery, and Dillon Tiner and Bailey, John, and Walter Jongbloed. He also leaves his niece, Susan Sayers (Sean Ardussi) of Seattle, WA. He was predeceased by his sister Audrey Sayers.
After joining the Air Force in 1954, Don and Carol started their life together at duty stations in Dayton, OH and Tokyo, Japan. Upon completing his military service in 1959 as a 1st Lieutenant, he began a career with IBM that spanned over 30 years. Don and his family returned to Tokyo with IBM, then on to Taipei, Taiwan and Seoul, South Korea as he started international procurement offices in those countries as a talented executive and manager. Don was respected for his keen intellect, ethics, and high standards, leaving a legacy of honesty, integrity, and civic responsibility. Returning home in 1967, they lived in Vestal, NY, Ridgefield, CT, and finally Madison, CT. After retiring from IBM, Don worked for many years as an IBM contractor in licensing its name in the paper market. Don and Carol enjoyed traveling especially to the BVI to sail with friends and chaperoning the Trinity Boys Choir trips to Williamsburg and England. He was happy spending his days in the yard on his tractor, helping Carol in her gardens, and celebrating holidays, birthdays, and graduations with his adoring family. During Carol's extended illness, Don was her constant and loving caregiver.
