The Rev. Claude Parke Street, III, a retired Episcopal priest, died August 17 in New Haven. He was 86.

Mr. Street was born December 3, 1934 to Claude Parke Street, II and Elizabeth Bogle Street in Nashville, Tennessee, where his father owned a piano store.

After graduating from Vanderbilt University, he attended Yale Divinity School as a member of the Presbyterian Church, and an internship at an inner-city church in New York led to his interest in urban ministry. After a year working in a church in Aberdeen, Scotland, he returned to the States and was unable to find a position in an urban Presbyterian parish, but a friendship with an Episcopal bishop led to study at the Theological Seminary of the University of the South and his ordination in the Episcopal Church. It was a time when the church was focused on reviving city parishes whose members had moved to the suburbs, and Mr. Street served as rector of several churches in inner-city Washington.

In 1971, after leading mission trips to the Pine Ridge Episcopal Mission in South Dakota, Mr. Street served for seven years as a priest at St. Katherine's Episcopal Church in Martin, S.D., with responsibility for several churches in the mission. He moved to Westcliffe, Colorado and later Hamden, Ct., where he lived with his wife, the Rev. Eleanor Lee McGee Street.

In addition to Ms. McGee Street, he is survived by his brother, Robert Street of Chattanooga; his son Claude Parke Street 4th, (Susan Scofield); two daughters Laura Street (Elizabeth Kantt) and Susannah Vitaglione (Guy Vitaglione); two stepsons, Kyle McGee (Sophia Salguero) and Matthew McGee (Janet Mahon); and eight grandchildren. His prior marriages to Anne Tydings, the mother of his children, and Linda Kramer, ended in divorce.
