Carolyn V. King, age 93, of Ashlar Village, passed away on July 12, 2018 at her home. Carolyn moved to Ashlar Village with her longtime friend and professional colleague, Teresa M. Carolyn received her Master's Degree in Communication Disorders at the University of Florida and continued study in Learning Disabilities at Syracuse University and Northwestern University. She worked in Duval County, FL (Jacksonville area) until 1963 when she joined the national staff of The Council for Exceptional Children in Washington, DC. She remained there as an Assistant Executive Director until 1973, when she moved to Connecticut where she served as a professor at Southern Connecticut State University until her retirement in 1989. In 2008, she received the annual award of the Pioneers Division of the Council for Exceptional Children at the national Convention of the Society in Seattle, WA.
