IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol Stuart
Jongbloed
October 2, 1931 – August 30, 2015
JONGBLOED, CAROL STUART, of Madison, Connecticut passed away peacefully on August 30, 2015 at home surrounded by her family. Born October 2, 1931 in Lewiston, Maine to the late Walter M. and Barbara M. Stuart, she was the beloved wife of Donald J. Jongbloed for 61 years. Carol graduated from Lewiston High School (1949) and Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing, Lewiston, Maine (1952). She worked as a nurse at Central Maine General Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, OH and Visiting Nurses Association, Ridgefield, CT. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children, Barbara (Ralph) Tiner, Leverett, MA, Peter S. (Barbara) Jongbloed, Madison, CT, and Pamela Jongbloed, Springfield, MA, along with her six cherished grandchildren, Andrew, Avery and Dillon Tiner and Bailey, John and Walter Jongbloed. She is also survived by her sister Linda (Jack) Schlosser of Virginia Beach, VA and their daughters Donellen and Erica, as well as her niece Susan Sayers of Seattle, Washington. She was predeceased by her brothers Walter and Peter Stuart.
Carol had a sense of adventure and always enjoyed meeting people. When Don's career led them to the Far East, they lived for eight years in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea. On their return home from Taiwan in 1967, Carol seized the opportunity for the family to visit many countries, including Cambodia, Lebanon, India, Thailand, and Iran. They ultimately settled in Vestal, New York and then Ridgefield, Connecticut, until 1994 when they moved to Madison. Carol made and cherished friends wherever she lived. Carol was a devoted hospice nurse for many years and brought peace and comfort to many families. Among her greatest joys were her flower gardens and sharing flowers with friends and family. Combining her love of travel and music, she and Don enjoyed chaperoning the Trinity Boys Choir trips to Williamsburg and England.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Trinity Episcopal Church on the Green, New Haven to celebrate Carol's life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church's Choir Activity Fund (950 Chapel Street, 2nd FL, New Haven, CT 06510) or to The Connecticut Hospice, Inc. (100 Double Beach Rd, Branford, CT 06405), which provided her and her family with much comfort and care.
