Obituary

Carol Donovan Hogan died at St. Raphael's Hospital in New Haven on Monday, May 24th, after a long illness.


Born in New Haven on June 18, 1934, she was the daughter of Alice and Paul Donovan and the granddaughter of John Lee Gilson, longtime Judge of Probate in the city.


She grew up in Pelham Manor, NY and spent summers in Pine Orchard, Branford. She came out at the Westchester Cotillion and graduated from the Marymount School and then Briarcliff College with a major in childhood education and worked with special needs children. Married to Dr. Gilbert F. Hogan on June 1, 1957, they lived in New Haven until 1966 before moving to Woodbridge where they have lived since. In addition to raising five sons she was active in the Junior League of New Haven, Meals on Wheels, the Woodbridge Republican Town Committee, was a member of the New Haven Lawn Club, the Quechee Club of Quechee, VT, the Woodbridge Garden Club and the Yale New Haven Hospital Auxiliary.


She is survived by her husband of 58 years, five sons (Gregory, Geoffrey, Douglas, Cameron, and Christopher), 11 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.


A Mass will be held in her memory on Thursday, May 28th, at 12:30 PM at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 81 Center Road, Woodbridge. A memorial service to celebrate her life is planned for a later date.
