Early on the morning of Sunday, February 9, 2025, Anita Scott Wanner passed away peacefully in her home in Naples Florida, at the age of 99. She had happily spent the previous week with both of her daughters. She was born in New Haven, Connecticut on May 24, 1925, the daughter of Robert Donaldson Scott and Anita Hotchkiss Scott.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert D. Scott, Jr., and her loving husband of 61 years, Richard Lewis Wanner.
She is survived by her two daughters, Suzanna Wanner Cook (David), Lucinda Wanner Stoll (Ned), five grandchildren, Scott Lewis Cook (Megan), Peter Donaldson Cook, Sarah Lucinda Stoll (Seth Tucker), Hannah Morrison Stoll, Peter Wanner Stoll, and seven great grandchildren, Bowden Charles Cook, Brinley Ann Cook, Henry David Cook, Kieran Scott Cook, Jacob Adam Kaye, Owen Stoll Tucker, and Caleb Stoll Tucker.
Anita grew up in New Haven Connecticut. She graduated from The Day School in 1941 and then attended Lasell Junior College for two years. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Physiology from Mount Holyoke College in 1946.
Anita married Richard Wanner on June 25, 1947. She and Dick built their home in Woodbridge, Connecticut where they settled and raised their two daughters. After Dick's retirement, they moved to Naples, Florida.
She was very active in volunteer organizations including the Mount Holyoke College Alumnae
Association, as a docent at the New Haven Historical Society, and later at the Naples Community Hospital. Anita loved reading, history, art, antiques, and traveling, including multigenerational family trips across the United States and Canada as well as many trips to Great Britain and the rest of the European continent.
A graveside ceremony for the family only will be held at the East Side Burying Ground in Woodbridge on what would have been Anita's 100th birthday, May 24, 2025.
