Obituary

On July 20th, 1967, Abigail Abbott was born as the beautiful first daughter of Gardner and Christine Abbott, and was raised in Connecticut as the oldest of four girls. Abigail played an integral part in the lives of her sisters Tina, Mary Gardner and Betsy, always there to offer help, guidance and of course to just have fun. At The Loomis Chaffee School ('85), she met lifelong friends. Her years at Duke University ('91) led her to a career in education and a life defined by service to her community. She spent more than two decades teaching Spanish at Burlington (MA) High School, where she was also an advisor for the National Honor Society and led student groups on summer trips across four continents. She inspired hundreds of students and helped them learn how to give without return, to share themselves without making exceptions and to see the goodness in everyone. She loved to travel and spent much of her free time taking road trips with friends and visiting people she knew around the world. She had a passion for volunteering and was a Shelter Captain with "Christmas in the City" for Boston's homeless children. Abigail was a beloved member of her communities in Dorchester, Massachusetts and Madison, Connecticut, and attended St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Milton, MA. She will be truly missed by her surviving family, especially her seven sobrinos, Will, Annabelle, Christopher, Miles, Liam, Carson and Rory.
