On January 18, 2016 Irene Furlong Hough Menges died at Evergreen Woods, North Branford, Connecticut. She was predeceased by her husband David J. Menges, her first husband Melvin S. Hough, an infant son Melvin S. Hough, Jr., a daughter Lana Hough Ferguson, a step-son David E. Menges, a sister Olive F. Miller and a brother-in-law John J. Miller.
She was born on April 16, 1920 to the late James L. and Bessie Arters Furlong in West Elizabeth, Pennsylvania. She graduated from California State Teachers College of Pennsylvania in 1940 and received her master’s degree in counseling from the University of Pittsburgh in 1960. She is survived by two children, ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.
Irene had a passion for life and lived a full and active life with her family and friends. She enjoyed reading, traveling, meeting new friends and, especially, spending time with her family.
Irene will be missed by all who came in contact with her. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 30th at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Guilford.
