Alice Geraldine Mitchell of Guilford, CT died on July 5, 2015. Born December 19, 1919, to Laura Mable Fluck and Clinton Charles Myers in Jersey City Heights, she was raised in Somerset County, New Jersey.  Alice graduated from Drake College in 1938 and All Souls Nursing in 1946.

On March 22, 1958, she married Thomas Hooker Mitchell at First Congregational Church in Guilford, CT. They lived in Guilford for over fifty years before moving to Evergreen Woods in North Branford. Tom preceded her in death on February 12, 2010.

While living in Guilford, Alice was a warm and engaging presence across the community fabric.  The First Congregational Church, Visiting Nurse Association, Red Cross, “A Better Chance” program – Funded by the Hole-in-Wall consignment shop, and Meals on Wheels, among many others.

She was never more at home than walking the Guilford Green and greeting new friends and old ones with atypical lightheartedness and laughter.  Unabated enthusiasm for adventure and love of the outdoors was her hallmark, whether sailing, skiing or taking to water slides in her 80’s.

She is survived by two children, Charles Mitchell of Guilford, CT, John Mitchell of Boulder, CO and two grandchildren.

A memorial service honoring Alice’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday morning, July 11, 2015, at the First Congregational Church Guilford.

Charlie and John,
Your mom was an amazing woman. Your mom and mine shared many an activity together. Their friendship lasted many years. Your mom was always helping others and doing things she enjoyed. She was always a pleasure to see around time or spend time with. I know she will be missed. My thoughts are with the two of you and the rest of your family. May it help to know that she is at peace.
God Bless,
Marge Fox Shampain and Family

I don't know if she ever got my message two years ago about my mom. I would love to be in touch with you but could not find a contact number. My email is
